I have a 2010 Mercruiser 4.3 TKS 2bbl with Alpha I outdrive. I cant seem to get it to start? I'm not sure if it is related yet, but happened last week after it rained the night before and it took a while for it to start, but it finally did and has started ran fine several time since then. It rained again last night and now I can get it to start. Even with starting fluid this time. Dosent even sound like it wants to.
Some of the symptoms are:
It cranks and cranks, then I let OFF the key and in slowly cranks once or twice more and lets a white puff or two out the carb that I think is gas vapor??? I do not think it is steam or water.
I thought it might be a spark issue, but I took one for the team and it zapped the hell out of me at the coil and the plug although I did not take any voltage reading and am not really sure how to other than a spark tester.
The plugs did not look saturated or oily.
It is getting fuel in the carb and you can hear the fuel pump running with the fuel on.
I have changed the water fuel filter and looked at the filter in the carb and it was ok. Have used several tanks of gas in the last two weeks and the gas is the fancy marine stuff.
It started and ran 100% normal the day before for 6 hours.
I disconnected the fuel pump for a minute thinking it might be flooded and cranked to try to burn off the gas then reconnected it and nothing, even with starting fluid.
I removed the distributor cap and it was dry under and the points?? looked ok as well, just very minor corrosion that I cleaned up and put back (in the same order) and still nothing.
Its in neutral and shift interrupter is positioned as it should be.
I have tried flooring it and no gas at all when starting.
Wires and engine are not getting wet when it rains.
Does need a minimum fuel pressure to start on tks? Or batt voltage? Its turning fine?? Is my coil crap? Is it an issue with the TKS? Can it be overridden?
Probably a separate issue, but it has been misting gas out my vent pipe when refueling. I attributed it to refueling too fast on the dock (very fast pumps), but I should check my vent line tomorrow. But its getting gas in the carb...ahhhh.
I just want to say thanks ahead of time to Don S and the other Mods that spend countless hours managing this board and answering questions. This is my fist post, but these forums have helped countess times. Thanks.
