I am so excited, I have been saving for a very long time and now I finally orderd my new Lund 1800 Sport Angler without a motor and my local lund dealer is going to put on a 115 Evinrude Etec. First question is will the 115 Etec be enough motor or should I go with the 130hp Etec. My firend has the same boat with a 115 Merc 4st and it seems a little slow to get on plane but runs about 33 MPH with 2 guys and gear. Any input on speed and suggestions that would be great. When lund says it will take 6-8 weeks for delivery do they deliver on time? It has been about 4 weeks now and the walleye fishing is starting to pick up here. I want my boat NOW!!! Any thoughts on a Kicker motor, since Evinrude doesnt make a 9.9 whats the next best option. Too many things to think about

Looking forward to any imput you may have.

I'm going on six week and haven't heard a thing. Wish there was some way to go to Lunds web site and check on your boat.

Called the marina and he said mine will be in next week. So it will be a couple of days shy of eight weeks. : )

Check the rating of the boat.. I am not familiar with the new models but definatly check the rating before you buy the motor.. I have 2000 1800 Adventure that has a 135hp on it, the boats rating is 175hp. Granted 50mph is ok, but id rather do it with the 1/2 throttle of a 175.. Personally, Id get as much motor as the boat can handle & is rated for..
Please post pictures of your new baby when it arrives !!! Very exciting !!!

Congrats on the new boat, post up some pics when you get her. I agree with Billfo, if your spending the money spend it once and get what you want, I would get the larger motor and you don't need to always have it wide open, your cruising speed will be a little higher with the bigger motor and you can throttle down and still have some decent speed and get some fuel efficiency out of it too. I bought by Lund used and glad the original owner got the biggest motor that the boat can handle, sometimes its nice to have that little bit of extra get up and go. That and I find most boat/motor combos come a little under powered originally. Good idea to get the boat w/o motor and get the motor YOU want on it instead.

I was kinda thinking it would be nice if someone would steal my 135 so I could put the insurance money twds a 175 !! BUT I remember years ago, someone stole an outboard motor off a boat on a lift on Table Rock Lake. They used a chainsaw instead of regular tools. Gotta be careful what ya wish for...

I have a 2008 Lund brochure and checked the max hp rating on your boat (I doubt if it has changed since then). The max is 175hp for the 1800 Sport Angler.

Go with the max rated. If you don't you will spend the rest of your life wondering "How much faster could I go if............)?

Well I finalized the motor deal with my dealer today, thanks to all of your input I orderd the 150hp Etec with a Yammie 9.9 kicker. I appreicate all of the imput I got from this post. I have thought more about this new boat than the last 2 houses I bought. I guess you know where my priority is:p

Thanks again I will post picts in a couple of weeks when she arrived. Now I just have to come up with a name:)

Well my boat showed up yesterday! YA. Swung by the dealer today to check it out and work out downrigger bracket locations and such. Boat looks great, but I have a question. I noticed a place where the paint was rubbed a bit by something like the cover or something like that during transit. It's on the right side of the transom? Any body have any experiance with issues like this. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I will be able to pick her up next Tuesday, and I just so happens that next Monday I start a 2 week vacation. Timing could not be better. I'll send picts soon.:D

Shouldn't be a problem. Ask dealer if they can buff it out with a little light weight rubbing compound.

You've got a terrific rig there. Can't wait to see pics!! -Ken

Well she's home and I got her all rigged up. Dealer did a great job, buffed out the few scuff marks finished rigging her yesterday. I hope to get her wet tommorrow. Here are the items I added once I got the boat.
2- 1101 Scotty electric down riggers, sport track downrigger mounts are great!! Minnkota 3 bank on board battery charger, Custom graphics for Evinrude Etec 150hp motor (yet to be installed), Rock tamers for my truck - those are a life saver to keep the dings off the boat. Enjoy and thanks for all the input.

Nice looking rig! You oughta have fun with that one. There's a strange optical illusion in the 3rd picture. It looks like the throttle is aft of the seat!

Edit: Oh wait, that's probably your kicker throttle!

Re: 2010- 1800 Sport Angler on its Way

I loved the Sport angler layout since Lund came out with it. I sold my lobster boat in 2008 and went out and picked up a 18'. Powered with a Honda 150 is plenty of get up and go for me. I absolutely love this boat. It is everything I could have imagined it would be.
To see pictures and some video check out my website at:
www.mermaidchartersfishing.com

If I were you I'd dump the factory rigger mounts and put on some bert's tracks. I used 6" in the back behind the cleats and 12" in front of the cleats. I use the front ones for junk rods and planer boards. You definitely going to want the riggers further aft than in the picture. I also added a planner board set up where I use the front pedestal mount to hold the mast.
I have my boat tricked out for trolling.

Your going to love that boat.

Good luck and may you have many years of service.
