Good afternoon all. I recently had my entire cooling system gone through. It is not a closed system. The maintenance included a new thermostat housing, thermostat, temp sending unit, manifolds risers and elbows, ball valves for the manifolds, sea water pump and unfortunately a rebuilt cool fuel unit. All were replaced due to salt water corrosion. The operating temp when read at the thermostat housing is now 160. The gauge reads 175. Is it normal that those temps would be that far apart from each other?

Also my power steering pump is also a bit noisy. Is there a good after market solution for those of us who don't want to pay the OEM price?

Normally the gauge is not that far off, its either the gauge or sender. Connect a ohm meter to the sender and place in pan of water on the stove. Put another thermometer on the pan and heat up the water. Should be close to 240 ohm cold and 33 ohms hot

The the PS pump is what's making the noise, might be able to get just the pump from auto parts house but keep the relief valve off your old pump (its higher pressure). Need to know what pump you have, got a serial number?

Thanks
You have the regular Saginaw Power steering pump which is good. You can get the entire pump with reservoir, or just the pump.

Entire pump Assy
Just the pump

The above links are just for reference and may not be yours. You need to look at yours and make sure the fittings show the same count and also if you get with the tank, make sure the hose fits in same place.

In either case, there is a large nut on the back the the high side line connects to. This nut is actually a high pressure fitting. You need to keep the old one and do not use the new one

If you want to rebuild the Saginaw pump, rebuild kits are about $10
