Hey guys,
I purchased a boat with a 2008 90 hp four stroke EFI and it ran good on the boat I purchased it from. I just installed it on a new to me boat got it all hooked up and took it to the lake, fired right up, got up on plain and ran good for about 30 seconds then bogged down and shut off. I could get it started again but definitely wasn’t running right and was sputtering back to the ramp. Brought it back home put new plugs in it, cleaned the fuel filter (which it was a little dirty) now on muffs it will start right up then die in 3-5 seconds then start right back up then die again. Please help! I checked the fuel and there isn’t any water in the boat tank.

pump the primer bulb until no more fuel will move.( VST should be completely full)
drain the VST into something to measure how much came out.
pump it up again and start it up.
run it until it dies and immediately turn the key off when it dies,
and then drain the VST again to see how much fuel was left in the VST when it died.
this will tell you if you have a problem with the VST starving for fuel
