Re: 2008 tahoe 215-tach

5.0 mercruiser- 22ft deck boat

with 6 people, 40 gallons of gas and 20 fresh water

23p alum- 3000 rpm at 31-33 mph-wot
19p alum-4100 rpm at 44 mph -wot

that was before i changed the tach, i am going boating in the am....
the goober at basspro said that changing pitch would not help- that a 23p was what i needed....i am thinking 17p 4 blade...i am just curious about that tach issue---i will post tom after i run it

Re: 2008 tahoe 215-tach

4C, 6C, and 8C stands for four cylinder, six cylinder or 8 cylinder. 6P and 8P stand for six "pulse" and eight "pulse". These last two numbers refer to a tach that is being driven by stator pulses. Tachs driven from the ignition system rather than the a stator are sensitive to the number of cylinders the engine has. If you have a 4 banger it should be set to 4C. 6C for a six popper and 8C for an 8 thumper.

Re: 2008 tahoe 215-tach

alright--
the changes were dramatic---

21.5ft tahoe deckboat
5.o mercruiser-220hp
6 people and 30 gallons of fuel

19p 3 blade alum mercruiser prop

3000 rpm's 26 mph
4500 rpms wot at 47 mph

should i still get a 19 4 blade--hole shot is ok- but not the best
what is a good sternlift aluminum prop--thanks for the help guys

Re: 2008 tahoe 215-tach

Medi, my reommendation is for the Soloas Rubex 4 blade aluminum prop in the 17" pith as it will let your motor turn right at maximum RPM of 4,800 and it will make your hole shot superb and you will be able to arry a muh greater load at higher speeds than the prop you have now. It lifts the stern and has enough blade surfae area to hold the stern up and pull up skiers effortlessly.

It is available at Iboats and here is the information for it.

Re: 2008 tahoe 215-tach

thanks again for all the help---do those numbers sound better.....
it it that uncommon for a deck boat to need that low of a pitch since it came with a 23p----but the boat runs great so i cant complain-

agian thank u

Re: 2008 tahoe 215-tach

Medi, if I were you I would all Tahoe and ask them what pith they reommend for your boat with the motor you have. But if your motor is putting out the horsepower it should be, it is going to require the 17" in a 4 blade for the low end pulling power and to keep your RPM at the top of the manufaturers reommended RPM range. If they say anything different then ask them exatly whih make and model of prop as well as pith and diameter. Beause if they say it is different then they know what exat prop they used for those results.

How does that sound, it only takes a little bit of time.

Re: 2008 tahoe 215-tach

i did call them- that was what started all this,,,they said the mercruiser 5.0 called for a 23p--they said it didnt matter what boat--can u believe that..i am sure the 5.0 would turn a 23p on a 1500lb runabaout but this is a 4000 lb boat...
then they went as far as to say that decreasing pitch would not change rpm's...
this is my 7 th boat and i am not new to props- but i am new to i/o power plants..i would rather take advise from you guys over some pencil neck that doesnt know port from starboard///anyway--thank u for the help--i will send the numbers to u when i get the prop
