Hi, I have a question about rebuilding my 2008 Mercruiser 4.3L TKS carburetor. I bought a rebuild kit (Quicksilver 3302?804844002) and did the entire rebuild, but I was watching some YouTube videos (which can be a dangerous thing) and noticed one video of a MerCruiser carb had a check ball, screen, and retaining clip in the accelerate pump well in the bottom half of the carburetor. I took mine apart very carefully and did not see either the check ball, screen, or retaining clip. There was one check ball for the Venturi assembly. That I did install. But my question is, could this carburetor NOT have a check ball for the accelerator pump?

There are two numbers stamped into my carburetor. The first one is 866141001 and the second number is 34 7221.

The serial number on my engine is 1A050545.

Thanks!

Are you asking about what the service manuals seems to be calling the Accelerator pump area that would be found under the Venturi assembly when removed or the Accelerator Well you notice as soon as you lift off the top cover? Step 5 then 6, http://www.boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/manuals/mercruiser41.html#/68

Did it look anything like this, http://www.skruvat.se/batdelar/Kulventils-Kit-P252377.aspx

If the one your asking about is under the VenturiIt then it should of been there as both generation 1 and 2 carbs are showing the check ball kit item number 7, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...11540.png&inbr=13798&bnbr=80&bdesc=Carburetor

866141001 Is the original part number of the carb and 7221 tells you the manufacture date was February 21, 2007.

Fun Times, thanks for the reply. I was referring to the Accelerator well in the float bowl assembly. There is a return spring that sits in the well. However, the manual you provided a link to shows exactly what I have, a generation 2 carburator. There is no check ball required here according to the manual.

I found, and replaced, this check ball, spring and T-shaped retainer. The one the service manual calls the Accelertor pump area
Yes, this is the one I found and replaced.

I did get the carb reassembled and installed on the engine. It started right up and ran great after adjusting the Idle Speed Screw. The only thing I did incorrectly was I installed the wrong gaskets on the base of the carb and on the intake. There is a spacer between the carb and the intake. I don't know what gasket to use between the spacer and intake. I know the one I installed between the carb base and the spacer is incorrect because I took a picture of it after removal but failed to refer back to it during reinstallation. I posted a picture of the gasket that was on the base of the carburetor at the time of removal.
I will remove the carb and replace the gaskets but I need to know which gasket to use between the base and the intake.

Thanks again for the help. This forum is awesome!
