We are seriously looking at our first pontoon and would like your opinion. It is a 2008 Bennington with 118 hours on it. It is an R series with a Yamaha 115. Seems to have all the options we would need (fish finder, changing 'room', bimini, playpen cover, coolers, etc.). Without a trailer I can buy it for 21.5K. Excellent shape except for a long scratch on one panel side which I will replace. Thoughts? Thanks ...

I'm not that great with prices on newer pontoons, so not much to say there but I didn't know they were that high used.

I would say to really evaluate what you want a pontoon for and make sure it meets the need. If you want to do anything in the way of tubing or skiing then I would ask about the speed. I assume it's a twin-toon and not a tri-toon but without knowing the length and if it has lifting strakes it's hard to make a guess about the speed. The 115 would probably do fine for tubing but unless it has lifting strakes twin-toons just don't turn very sharp to swing tubers around. Skiing will be a struggle for enough speed. If you don't care about water sports then speed and turning won't be an issue.

The only thing worse than paying too much for a pontoon is getting one that doesn't do what you want. If you're going to be hauling it around I would price a GOOD trailer first.

Still seems high but I haven't looked around.

Sorry I didn't give enough information. It is a 22' R series Twin toon Bennington with lifting strakes on inboard and outboard sides of both toons and has a 115 Yamaha outboard. Hope that helps ...

To give you an example of pricing . I bought a 24ft limited edition Starrcraft 2007 with a 2006 tandem wheel 5 starr trailer loaded with a 90 hp merc two stroke everything you have.I got it from a StarrCraft dealer in 2009 for $15,000. At the time E bought it there still was a warranty on the motor.very low hours.

What is the model number? There are a few R series.

I ran NADA on a 2250RL and it came up with $22,490 for average retail without a trailer.

Seems high with out a trailer. NADA is not always reflective of what a boat can actually be bought for.

What did you guys use as a heading to get results for the NADA When I tried to use it for pontoon boats I got no results found.
