I just bought a 2008 Bayliner Discovery 210 today (5.0L Alpha 1 gen 2), and when I got it home and was checking systems and testing stuff in the driveway, I noticed the tilt trim started cutting out. At least that's the best way I can describe it. The unit lowered and raised fine before. This afternoon, I noticed it cut out a couple of times intermittently while lowering. I thought maybe then it lowered down to touch the driveway and will raise up about 6-8 inches off the driveway and stop. It sounds completely fine, seems fast. Lots of power, battery terminals are tight.
This is a salt water boat that I bought from the bank. Last owner was not much good with maintenance.
Is there a contact or something that would cause it to cut out at a certain position?
Thanks,

Could be a solenoid or the pump motor. When it cuts out you need to put a test light on the output side (motor side) of the solenoid. If it shows power, pull the trim pump motor and repair it. No power, replace the solenoid.

I would look more at the solenoid then the motor. But it seriously could be either one like achris alluded too. He did offer a good troubleshooting idea. But when I hear an intermittent issue, it usually points to the contacts in the solenoid and not a motor... JMHO!

Well, I feel dumb. This is a newer style than I am used to and the trailer switch is part of the tilt trim rocker switch. I just needed to take a close look at the icons on the switch and press it all the way up. Duh.
I think it's "fixed" now. :) Thanks for all who offered advise.

The newer 'double press' trick. Gets them every time. :D :D ;)
