2008 4.3 mercruiser loosing power????

my buddy has a 1997 wellcraft 240 costal that has a 4.3l mercruiser and alpha 1 outdrive. he says every year its been loosing power. he changed the motor, and it didnt even make a difference. he says it feels like he is towing something when he is out riding it around. when he first got it he said it would go 30mph at 4200rpm no problem. now he can only get to about 15mph at the same rpms. is there something clogged up? the outdrive???? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, clayton.

Is the boat getting harder to tow also? if there is a leak and the foam is getting soaked maybe the boat is heavier year after year.

we assume whilst changing the engine the coupler was inspected.the prop may be spinning on the cush drive too.

no, it weighs the same....he gets it weighed every year just to make sure.

we assume whilst changing the engine the coupler was inspected.the prop may be spinning on the cush drive too.

whats a cush drive???

the rubber that maybe in the centre of the prop which is there to give the drive from the centre where the nut is clamping (splined) to the props material.eg stainless or ally.
if your friend is getting 4300rpm something is slipping as 15 mph would not even get most people on the plane.

your right....he had to install some trim-tabs to get it to plane.
