Hello Forum - I have an F20ELRH that has been running fine for years. The boat took a lightning hit (not necessarily the motor/wiring .. nothing melted) and the motor will start (sometimes) and run fine for about 10 minutes. Then it starts missing and dies or just dies completely and will not start again. If it sits for awhile or unplug/plug the harness back in it will sometimes start .. or not. I do have the shop manual and used a meter to check coil, stator and plug wires which all looked good. I dont want to just start swapping expensive/non-returnable electrical parts. This motor was installed without the remote kill-switch/lanyard and the keyswitch is not located with the remote/throttle assembly. I am trying to figure out how to now bypass the ignition by unplugging the main ignition 12 wire harness and "jumping" the right wires to attempt to start it without the ignition/keyswitch harness connected to remove that from the equation. I hate intermittent issues as most of you do since its not fully broken so you can start diagnosing part by part. I have never seen a stator or coil that works and then doesnt work due to warmup. If someone knows what wire or wires to jump to hot/red after unplugging the harness let me know. If you have seen something like this before and have a clue to a fix send that too ! Any guidance is appreciated.
