I have a 2102 Century Inshore 21'8 ft. It has a 2007 Yamaha F150 4-Stroke on it and proped with a Yamaha M18. Now the boats does fairly well but has a weak hole shot. I can only get about 5200 RPM at WOT & 42 MPH by GPS. I beleive this motor should get about 6000 RPM right? My friends say I need a Relience 17 pitch which should give a higher RPM. I would really like some advice on this guys.

Thanks

Yes, simply going down on pitch will yield more rpm on top while improving holeshot (in theory). Before throwing $$ at the situation, have you played with the motor height?

Keep in mind a 4 cylinder motor is probably going to be working pretty hard on a 22' boat.

I would go 17. My F150 on the Stanley Islander 19 gives me 5900 rpm/46mph

running a Yamaha aluminum 17p. Full tank of gas, me and the dog. My unit is 96" wide with high windage. I'm mounted in the #1 position, you might be able to go higher as suggested by Dhadley, especially with the Reliance.

Stock 19p was struggling to turn 5400.

Thank you both for your input. I'm not getting near those performance stats. I think I really need a new prop to get the RPMs Im looking for. Man, they are exspensive!

Have you played with motor height to gain efficiency (rpm & speed)?

Great. With propping a boat we need to max out the set up with the existing prop before spending bucks on another and possibly wrong prop. We're not expecting this prop to do miracles but rather looking for how the hull responds to changes in set up. That will guide us in the selection of the next prop.

Counter rotation prop

Counter rotation prop

I am buying a new 2008 Yamaha F150 and the dealer said the engine is a left(counter rotation) engine. Will this have any effect on performance? This will be the only engine on the boat.

when playing with props, especially on the F115 and F150 motors you may find some blade designs have an unwanted gearbox chatter at low speeds.
while normal and wont hurt anything it can be very annoying.
best prop I ran on my 21 seapro,F150 with a hyd jack plate and a second station tower was a 13.5X17 4 blade.
but the idle speed chatter drove me nuts so I switched to a 13.25X18 lost a small amount on the top end but now its quiet.

You should start your own topic. This could get very confusing for all involved.
Counter rotating props are harder to find and may not be discounted.
May not have as broad a selection.
Most boats are setup to balance clockwise rotation.
Counter rotating motor could cause the boat to lean a little underway.
probably not much perhaps not at all.
