I just recently upgraded my 1442 lowe semi v duck hunting boat with a 25 hp 1 owner Yamaha 25hp. The motor is quiet, starts first touch of buton, etc. I love it as far as reliability. However I am curious to as if any of you guys out here have done anything to improve the performance of the motor. I have not mounted it w/ the bolt hole brackets built to the motor yet just have I tightened up normally, im currently getting right at 29/30mph w/ 2 people, 2 batteries, a gun box and 5 gal gas tank and that's running a SS 13p prop. I have yet to tach it, I know, but are any of yall in my situation too? or have been? just looking for guidance on this motor, I know its not a 3cyl and a speed DEMON but im sure that theres something to do to get a lil extra, or I may be doin all shes got. any info is appreciated guys. Thanks!

25HP and 30MPH sounds pretty darn good to me....you might adjust the height of motor, trim, weight distribution in the boat and pick up 1 or 2 MPH, if it's what you want and need...

I've come to realize that raising the height of the motor could help a lot for top end speed, I just haven't had the time to go ahead and do it yet. I know id like to have power Tilt and trim but I don't lol. I need a tach too. Any of yall ran one like mine and done anything to them??

99yam40 Ive heard it should be somewhere b/w 5-6k rpm at WOT is this true? Whats the most reliable tach to purchase to get a good judgment on the RPM at WOT?

might check with a local Yamaha shop to see it they will run it up with a shop tach to see what it does if you do not feel like buying a tach

Have heard of tiny tach before but never tried one myself.
any good tach for an outboard motor should work.
I have one I use from a evenrude Johnson
