I will start by say I am not a mechanic but I pretend to be on occasion. I bought a motor that has not been run in several years and the best I could get it to do was idle. As soon as you touch the gas it would shut off.

Took of the carb and removed all parts I could find and cleaned out with spray carb cleaner. After I got it all put back together my buddy asked if I counted the number of screw turns on the 2 main jets, and did I make sure to put them back that many turns? I said nope didn't know anything about it. Don't you love friends that tell you the key info after the job is over?

So, my question is do I have a problem if I screwed them in all the way? And how do I get my jets set right like it was from the factory?

Any help is appreciated!

Your friend is mistaken. One main jet #108 (seats all the way in against the emulsion tube nozzle), and one slow jet #58 (also seats all the way in). Be sure that you install the rubber plug in the jet housing of the main casting (on top of the slow jet), or you will be super-rich. Odds are you will need a thorough carb dip cleaning, BTW...
