I am in the market for a new 19 foot bowrider for recreational skiing, tubing, and kneeboarding. This morning I went to my local dealer (Chatlee) to look at the Stingray 195LR. After showing the Stingray, the dealer pointed me to the Mariah SX19. The Mariah looked very similar to the Stingray with the same engine/outdrive yet cost $1300 less. However, the Stingray comes with a 6 yr warranty and the Mariah only 2. In your opinion, which is a better boat in terms of quality of construction? Which would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

Well I just went here: http://www.stingrayboats.com/products/models07/models.php?model=195LX&action=1 and here: http://www.mariah-boats.com/sx19.html and it looks like they are equipped pretty similarly to me.

Four years more warranty may be a big deal if you are not comfortable taking care of the little things. Little things on boats need adjusting and tightening and yes, fixing a lot. What I also usually say when asked this question is that boats are really just a collection of the same parts. Most production hulls are pretty similar as far as strength is concerned, it is how they join the deck to the hull and the quality of the fasteners, gauges, switches, hinges etc. that set them apart. As long as the stuff feels similar quality and a good look around (get upside down and sideways) gives you confidence in both, then I would base it on the warranty since it is the same dealer.

Can you get a ride in both? Push them for that. May be a simple decision after a couple of minutes in the water.

Have fun, read your manuals, break her in right . . .

Like already said the motors and outdrives are the same. You need to look at the quality of vinyl and stitching in each. Good quality vinyl makes a big difference a few years down the road and it's expensive to start fixing if it goes. I know stingray does good work on their stitching and uses very good quality vinyl. I don't know about the other boat. I have a '95 stingray with 345 hrs on it that still looks like new inside and out, but it's never been stored outside. The sun is what really hurts a boat. That and poor maintenance.

The stingray will outrun that Mariah and they have been in business for a long time building a quality boat.
