I have a 2007 Crest 22XRS with the bow mounted captains chairs with an Evinrude Etec 115 mounted using the 2nd from the bottom mounting holes. I have noticed when I have people sitting in the front captains chairs, the boat tips forward on its pontoons causing the prop to come out of the water sometimes when crossing a wake etc. My question is, " Should I lower the motor to the lowest point, e.g. top mounting hole, to prevent this from happening? Currently my cavitation plate is even with my 'toon bottoms, which I understand is proper, but with the weight shift I am thinking lower is better??. Thanks for the help!

I'm visualizing the boat going over a wave with the front dropping and the rear rising like a seasaw. If that's the situation, I can think of several options.
  1. Anticipate the situation and either hit the wave less head on, or throttle back as the back end rises.
  2. Ask your guests to sit where you want rather than where they want. You are the captain.
  3. Ask your heavier guests to lose some weight.
  4. Store more heavy stuff as far to the rear as possible.
  5. Trim more nose up and see if that will keep the rear end down better.
  6. Move the motor lower. This may hurt your top speed and fuel economy some.

It's not unusual for the perfect height to be a compromise. If these people are going to be up front frequently, and you don't mind a slight performance hit, I say go for it. Drop the engine down as low as it will go!
