I just purchased this engine with a known blown head gasket. It has 420 hrs. My questions are
1. When having the head checked for warpage and cracks do I just need to check the cylinder that had water in it?
2. Should I have the valves and seats all ground?
3. What else would you do to the engine will it’s torn down?
Thanks, Al

If the head was warped ( it likely is ) what would you do to correct that ?

I would inspect the head for warpage per Yamaha's directions.

If out of spec, you could have a few thou removed. In which case you might want to consider the use of a slightly thicker gasket.

If you machine to make the head gasket surface flat how do you deal with camshaft bearing alignment ?

Camshaft bearings are on the other side of the head. Should not be affected. Unless I am missing something.

From what research I’ve done when rebuilders recondition these cylinder heads they are machined back flat and there is no mention of a thicker gasket. I guess they aren’t machined enough to put the compression ratios too out of spec.
