Anyone noticed the miniscule brass idle jet adjustment needles on the carbs on this motor? Advance warning if you have one----these brass needles are INCREDIBLY easy to break off and once you do, you're in trouble. The needles seem to be turned in a lathe and for some reason the thickness of the needle at one point is ground to probably only a 16th of an inch thick. The needle also has a spring to hold a pre-load on it so it doesn't back out and change the adjustment. This means you have to use a tool to turn it out and if the alignment of the tool is not absolutely perfect, you can expect the shaft of the needle to break.

Gripe #2: Nothing but high-dollar OEM pistons available, and they're all on back order from every source I've found. Seems like nobody stocks them.

They are good motors and I'm not at all bashing them, but these carb needles seem like a really bad design. Just curious if anyone else has noticed this.

Yikers! I was just talking about how good Yami 2-stokes were to another forum member :) It seems like all newer(ish) motors have such tiny passages and needles in their carbs in order to improve efficiency that they can get blocked up/ruined very easily. Especially, with the good ol' ethanol gas :/ You're also right about the pricey replacement parts too. That's sort of typical of most Japanese hardware, I'm afraid. All that being said, most Yami 2-strokes down here in FL are worth their weight in gold and don't last long on CL and other sites. Particularly the 20-40 hp "Enduro" and/or tiller models. I know I'd like one. I hope you're able to get it sorted out. Maybe it's easier to just get a new carb?
