Hey all well here is another newb with a question. I recently went out to start up the boat down here in Florida cause the warmer weather has come. It has been probably a month and a half since last start. Before winter (janurary, I know we suck down here) I put marine stable for ethanol in it and ran it for about 15 minutes. Recently when I started it the engine would turn over but no fuel was going to the carb. I decided to change out the fuel filter and checked the fuel lines. The engine started up and ran but only when there was a steady throttle on it. Put the throttle back down to idle and it would cut out. At this time I noticed that the yellow tygon line that goes from the fuel pump to the carb had varnish in it on the fuel pump end. I stopped the engine pulled the line and noticed that varnish had clogged the fitting that led into the fuel pump. Can anyone recommend suggestions for me? Is this the vaccum line and is it gummed up? If so can it be cleaned or flushed out or am I looking at a new fuel pump or rebuild? Thanks in advance and Cheers!:)

You can NOT see fuel going to the carb while cranking. In order to see fuel come out of the carb you will need to operater the throttle so the accelerator pump can PUMP fuel into the engine.
If you have been trying to start the engine without pumping the throttle a couple of times, forget it, it's not going to happen.
Go up to the Adults Only sticky at the top of this forum and read the post on starting a cold carabed engine.

As long as that tygon hose from the fuel pump to the carb doesn't have fuel in it, things are ok. That hose is only there incase the fuel pump diaphram fails. The fuel would be pumped into the carb and flood the engine, instead of filling your bilge full of raw gas ............ BOOOOMMM.

Thanks for the info don. When I stated that fuel was not going to the carb, I meant while I was pumping the throttle cable. I am aware of that but I and others appreciate the widsom, thats why these forums are good to read and can learn up on what we own. I am just curious why there was varnish on the fuel pump end of the tygon tubing and inside of the barb that feeds into the fuel pump from it. I appreciate all the help.
