2006 Volvo gx to gxi

I have a question from a poster on TBM asking if he'll gain 50 hp if he buys and installs an ecm fom a gxi to his gx. I'm pretty sure theres more to the GXi than just the ECM. Any input would be helpful.

He meant differences between a 5.7 Gxi and a 5.7Gi (Howdy Walt!)

According to this just about everything is the same except the HP.

If you look at the technical data on the Volvo data sheet there's not much difference and it appears that one could just swap the ECM and bolt on another 50 or so hp.

Maybe the throttle body and camshaft is different.........

Okay well my guess is that the torque curve is different thereby changing the HP rating since HP is a mathematical function of torque. We can actually change where peak torque is and come up with a different HP rating at a given RPM. Since torque is what really matters it is unfortunate that the average joe thinks HP is a true indicator of engine power. It is not.

Along those same lines....I'm willing to bet that the difference in hole-shot and acceleration is not much different or any different between the Gi and Gxi in the same boat..

I noticed that the Gi and the Gxi have the same part numbers for the throttle body and cam, but a different part number for the intake manifold.

Dave what numbers do you have? I show the same 2 piece manifold for both engines.

the actual model would help narrow it down. i did some searching this morning but didnt find much different, however i just picked the E model.
post your whole model number or an engine serial number.
