OK, I bought this 2006 Mercury 9.9 (basically a Tohatsu MFS 9.8) last spring and the gentleman I bought it from already had it winterized with the oil changed. So now I am in the process of un-winterizing my boat for Spring and need to change the oil. Problem is, I can't find a darn oil filter anywhere on this thing.

I don't have a repair manual (shame on me) but the users manual just says to drain the oil and fill it back up again? Mentions nothing about a filter...can't be right, can it? Only place I could think it would be would be under the exhaust baffle plate in the rear?

Help?!?!?

The smaller motors (2.5 ~ 9.8) don't have an oil filter at all. On the 15hp ~ 30hp they do have one (easy to get to and very obvious).

OK, I guess what threw me is that I found pictures of older Tohatsu/Nissan's (pre-2005) with oil filters sticking out the side of the block. *Guess I figured it had an oil filter somewhere....

Thanks for the response!

it was probably the 9.9 you saw pics of (not 9.8). Tohatsu makes a 9.9 which is based on the 15 block (hence the oil filter). I don't know if they still sell them in the US or not since most people want the lighter weight 9.8hp instead.
