Anybody seen or have one of the new Tohatsu 115 TLDI's? I'm thinking about one as a replacement for my 1990 M90A Tohatsu. Opinions?

My opinion, I would not replace it with another tohatsu .... rather go for yamaha, mariner, mercury, johnson or evenrude .... I do boat racing and to be honest the tohatsu motors all fail, the crank shafts normally breaks ... but that is only my opinion ....

Nice post TROLL.

Opinions are like a$$holes....Can you lend any factual information to this thread?
If this was the case, there would be some posts here regarding crank issues. So, do a search...what did you find??? Yep nothing.

No outboard is perfect, but if there is one thing Nissan/Tohatsu is good at their reputation for legendary reliability. Now if you had complained about lack of competent dealers or lack there of dealers period or lack of information on the internet, I would have been with ya..... but his response was nothing more than a troll.

One thing must be said. Nissan/Tohatsu is typically way over cautious before they release a product. Typically, they are the last to release something. But, when it is released, it is rock solid.

The 4 cylinder block used in the 115/120/140 has been pretty solid. Nissan/Tohatsu's TLDI has been out for quite a while and the 4 cylinder block alot longer. This package should be pretty straight forward as long as they get the fuel mapping right. TLDI is a modified Orbital direct infection system. It's pretty straight forward stuff.

So, troll, care to elaborate with some information?

Hey no need to be nasty ... everyone is entitled to their own opinion... i'm simply stating my experience .... let me try and explain to you .... I race boats, modified to the max and then stock standard ones aswell ..... we race for about 5 days non stop at WOT .... I've tried all makes of motors to find which one last longer and which are more durable to make me win ..... I had a tohatsu stock standard that lasted 3 days, and the modified tohatsu lasted 2 days .... broken beyond repair .... the best I found thus far is the yamaha, modified to the max, blue printed the block and all the works, lasts all 5 days in the race with no problems, even after flipping the boat a couple of times and no problems ..... so my point being with this is my experience with the quality of motor ... I can work on a tohatsu, I know a tohatsu very well, cause it is a pretty straight forward motor but it is just not for me .... and that is a fact, not an opinion ...

The 115 TLDI's will be here in three weeks and Tohatsu's never break cranks. Inflatable boat racers who exceed the maximum RPM of the engine twist cranks...Big difference.

What "deejaycee" implied by his post was that Tohatsu has weak cranks. Nick, on the other hand, was looking for information on the 115 TLDI.

If I understand correctly, your helpful response was to lend experience gotten from abusing racing motors running way outside of any rational specification? Did you expect us not to jump on your ("deejaycee's") response? You have to admit it is a bit misleading for someone looking for a 115 TLDI.

Speaking of the 115 TLDI....2 questions Elvin- and a bit off topic....are they shipping and second....what is with the "Mercury like" plain jane blah graphics on the Nissan's this year???? Merc went with the generic look this year...Tohatsu kept it's nice graphic....what happened to what were nice looking graphics on the Nissan????

The first 115 should be arriving to me on or about the 27th. The graphics on the Nissan are....Terrible. Nissan corporate barely knows what an outboard is. They got to pick the labeling without any regard to what it looked like on the engines. There was a collective groan when it was viewed, followed by laughter from the Japanese Tohatsu employees. Their focus is on the Tohatsu label:^

Elvin, I can imagine that the Nissan dealers and customers alike groaned. I cannot imagine what they were thinking with those graphics. In the past, I have chosen the Nissan name simply due to more "name" recognition when it comes to resale than the Tohatsu label. In the upper midwest and mountain states, Tohatsu is still relatively unknown. People may not be aware of Nissan outboards, but they are familiar with the name- and the Nissan name is typically identified by people familiar with durable quality cars. Even if it has nothing to do with Nissan and is all Tohatsu. So, I am a loyal Nissan/ Tohatsu customer looking at hideous graphics on an outboard that I really want to buy.... Keep me posted when you start seeing the 115 TLDI's come through....and let me know how they run! :-D

Re: 2006 Tohatsu 115 TLDI - Out Yet?

Any updates to this? Anybody had experience with these or seen them run? Of paramount importance to me is the idle quality and duration. Can I idle this motor in gear without any fouling issues like I have with my '90 M90A? I have a Tohatsu 4 stroke kicker motor as well, but sometimes when the wind kicks up its nice to have the "big" motor "online" to keep me pointed into the wind while trolling.

They arrived into the U.S. this week. I hope to have one installed by next weekend....If U.S. Customs will release the shipment.

Only that I am not overly fond of U.S. Customs at the moment. They held the engines up for almost a month. Anyway, I should be getting it shortly.

I had the great experience and chance to be part of the Launching for the new TOHATSU MD115TLDI in Paris in December 2005 and i must confirm that if you were happy with the old M90HP you will be more than happy with the TOHATSU MD115HP. We are waiting for these outboards in MALTA and have already confirmed orders for 3 units. I can personally guarantee that my experience of the TLDI 115 HP has no vibrations, is so smooth and silent that TOHATSU had to design a switch that when engine is on, you could not restart it!!
TOHATSU are Japanese - Engines are their own babies. Before they have all smooth running, no problems, and all according to specifications, they will NOT launch any of their new items. TOHATSU are High Esteemed and PROFESSIONAL personel as i could also see in the new Factory in JAPAN.
I need to emphiseize the following:- All TOHATSU OUTBOARDS are factory tested. RELIABILITY is what they advertise and RELIABILITY is what TOHATSU delivers. Give another go to TOHATSU and you will not be disappointed as all other TOHATSU Satisfied Clients.

They became available in September. It's a nice engine. It's the 140 hp block detuned down to 115 hp. Smooth and very quick. I'm waiting for a forbidden software patch to boost the engine up to 139.7 hp.

Almost 13 years ago was the time ask the question. A little late to ask in a thread this old.
