My Mercury 25 HP Four Stroke has between 40 and 50 hours on it. It is electric start from the throttle control. I recently replaced the battery because the old one would not turn the engine over when it was cold. I could put start it when cold and it would start it, albeit slow, after that. Well, when I put the new battery in I removed the little anti-theft kill switch with the little plastic key and connected the wires directly to the battery. When I tried to start it with the key it did not do anything. No sound whatsoever.
I checked all connections and everything is tight, no corrosion anywhere, etc. I used a screw driver to jump start the motor at the starter and it started right up. I had the key on and when the engine was running I was able to turn it off at the key. I still cannot start the engine at the key.
Any suggestions on where to start to diagnose the problem? I'm not sure where the fuses are on this motor but once I find out I'll check the fuses.
Thanks for any suggestions.
