So my boat is at a local shop for bellows replacement and my manuals are in the boat. Went to buy stuff for winterization but wasn't sure what oil to use. In my 1986 Sea Ray I used Shell Rotella 15w-40 T4. The new boat is a 2006 Crownline with a 5.7 Merc B3. It is not fuel injected

Sounds good. I went to Auto Zone today and grabbed a few things for winterizing and grabbed the 15W-40 (T4) but when I got home started thinking about that boat being newer.

the 15W40 T4 is perfect. however you can also use T5 (semi-synthetic) or T6 (full synthetic)

Amazon will deliver T4 for about $11-13 per gallon ( I buy by the case)

Good to know Scott. Not sure what I paid for it at Auto Zone but guessing around $20. My total was $35 and I grabbed a can of Sta-Bil fogging oil Gunk engine degreaser and a small bottle of Star Tron.

Will the Gunk hurt the gel coat in the bilge? I was told (and it looks like it) that the bilge in the 2006ish Crownlines were gel coated? Mine needs cleaned so was going to spray it with Gunk foam and scrub what I could then wash it all out.
We pulled the boat last week due to weather and flooding and I dropped it off yesterday for bellows replacement so when I get it back I wil be winterizing and doing some stuff that needed done when we bought it 6 weeks ago but didn't do because we wanted to get at least a few rides in it...lol

So far so good with the new boat. Just need to get my fresh water working then everything will work but that's another story. Think I am sucking air at one of the Pex fittings. None of the faucets work (well they barely trickle out). Pump runs continuous (pump was new 3 years ago when they put it away but it was in storage for the last 3 years)

Follow the gunk with dawn dish soap and you can eat off it

Agreed with the above, the only oils I'd use are the Merc 25/40, a good 15/40 (Delo or Rotella) or a straight weight. I had good luck with the Merc oil, it held up to one bad overheat and then a blown head gasket with salt water in the oil. The lack of corrosion when I took the engine apart to replace the heads etc was quite surprising to me. Maybe there is something to that NMMA corrosion standard after all.

Cool. Been using the Rotella 15W-40 (T4) since we got our first boat in 2015.
