I'm looking at an ad for a 2006 FD 198 with 115 yamaha four stroke and magic tilt aluminium trailer. Ad says it has been in the water about 12 times. I hope to go check it out this week. The asking price is $22500, which I feel is high. Any Ideas on the value? I checked it out on NADA, which said it was under $10000 (including motor), which is obviously rediculous.

Depends on where you're buying it.. different areas will have different market impacts on the overall price.

So, I'd work backwards. Hurricane has a 2010 188 on for $17,995 (http://hurricaneboats.com/boatdeals.cfm) with the F115 4 stroke.

Add a $2500 trailer, plus taxes, etc. and that should give you the current price on that boat.

So ask yourself, with the 198 being a slightly larger boat, and 4 years old, would you pay $22,500. My guess is that boat should sell somewhere in the $18-$20K range but again I'm not in your area so I don't know if there is a premium.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. I looked at that 188, but I really want something with dual fishing seats on the bow, but that isn't available on the 188 as far as I can tell. I was thinking the purchase price of the one that I mentioned in the original post should be about $18K. We are hopefully going to check it out this afternoon. I really don't think that boats in general in my area (East TX) carry a premium. I've been watching them sell on ebay and listings on craigslist for a couple of months. I'm new to boating, though, so I could be wrong.

188 can be ordered with it but if it's in stock, the dealer can easily install the two bow mount seats for you. Along with the trolling motor harness (and it has the livewell built in)

Hmm. I may have to ask him about that. Did I see somewhere that the 188s are limited to dealer stock only? He had one on the floor when I was there. I think they were asking 24K.

Yeah, factory sold out in less than 10 weeks.... I know as I got one of the last shipments off the line the end of May :D

So dealer stock is all that remains. But they can order the seats with matching vinyl and install easily enough.

I'm guessing the $18K, plus trailer, and motor upgrade from 4 stroke F115 Yamaha, carpets/ski bar, and cover is what is pushing the price upwards.

Re: 2006 Hurricane FD 198 - Help determining price I should pay.

Last year after a lot of looking I bought a 2008 202FDGS 4.3L with under 10 hrs, it was vertually new. During my search I noted end price comparisions came down to what accessories were included. Of course there were boats in the high and low ends, but adding a fishing package with a high end wireless trolling motor, electronics like stereos, fish finders, gps, stainless trim, cup holders, etc. as well as motor packages make a big difference in price. Check apples to apples when comparing. The price seems high, I'd expect to see it in the $18K range, but if the boat is loaded with everything you can put on it, including some dealer options you may have to weigh those in. Good luck, I'm not sure a couple of $K will matter in a year or two, especially with a great boat like a Hurricane.

ShadowB.... post some pics in the Hurricane pics thread. We`re starting to form a good group of Hurricane owners and would love to see your boat.

We checked the boat out and it was in great shape. The only thing wrong was a spot on the aluminum guard on the back corner where he said that his bass boat had been parked beside it in the water and was rubbing against it. Only cosmetic. The 115 Yamaha 4 stroke had 52 hours on it. The boat actually belongs to the guy's parents but they are unable to use it much as they had anticipated. Still unsure on the price. I'm with you guys in that I should be shooting for the 18k-20k range, but when I asked if it was a firm price, he seemed to think that his dad's bottom line was about 21.5k (Asking 22.5k). On the other hand, I had to let the boat get away because it is exactly what we are looking for and its right in our back yard. I won't have to deal with someone half way across the state to get it. Here is a pretty much identical boat on ebay, excapt the one I am looking at does not have a trolling motor installed, but does have a better trailer.

What is the significance of a "Magic Tilt" trailer? This boat is on one. Looked like a really nice trailer and I'm thinking this is playing into the price some.

A single axle trailer (from what I can tell Magic Tilt is similar to an EZ Loader that tilts to load) wouldn't add anything more than a standard boat trailer which for that boat would be $2-3K new depending on its configuration.

bjennings....there is no link for ebay....

Run a comparison on that boat vs. the new at dealer boat. What are the benefits/drawbacks. For that price, you might end up in a brand new boat with 5 years of warranty....Something to compare/consider.

Sorry,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006...b2bQQitemZ270596160299QQptZPowerQ5fMotorboats

That boat brand new is $31k out the door according to this quote I received:

Sale price is $28995.00. Freight and Prep are included.
The only add is Tax and Registration.
$28995.00
1812.18 tax
49.32 vit
170.00 registrations
50.00 doc fee
$31076.50 TOTAL DRIVE OUT

This is with an Evinrude E-Tech 115, which I believe is a 2-stroke motor.

Other than the mixed oil (and cost of it) don't discount the 2 stroke. Better low end hole shot. Tend to be a bit noisier than its 4 stroke but are as fuel efficient in most RPM ranges. (I did an extensive comparison on Mercury Optimax 2 stroke vs the Verado 4 stroke and bought the 2 stroke)

The E-TEC is a great motor.

Spent all last night and half the day doing price research and I was able to come to an agreement at $20k, contingent on a test drive this Friday. I really don't see any problems arising, so looks like it'll be a deal. Thanks a lot for your input, NelsonQ.
