I seek the help of all my knowledgeable friends here on iboats... my friends 2006 3.0 has blown the head gasket out of the block in the exact same place 2 times now and I cant figure out why... here is the back story on the engine... its in a 32' pontoon boat and when it was purchased it had a rod knock so the engine was pulled and the short block was sent out and rebuilt... get it back and everthing is good now... then some where in the 10-20 hour range it blows the head gasket out (see attached pics) so I figure when it was reassembled it was not torqued down in the proper sequence(not by me) so the head was pulled and new gasket installed part # 52364 and (supposedly- again not by me) torqued in proper sequence... well yesterday wile on the bay it blows again... in the exact same spot... does anyone have any ideas?? my only thought based on the idea it was torqued down properly is that the head is warped?? any help is mucho appreciated!

look at Sierra 18-3880 slightly different configuration but listed for the 3.0 Sierra 18-2946 is also listed but if your blowing out by the notched area then you might have the wrong gasket.

Did you check to see if it is warped?
Also might want to check the block.

What is the serial number of the engine? There is a series of 3 litre engines that require the timing to be retarded if they continuously blow head gaskets. Merc service bulletin.
