To make a long story short my motor keeps blowing the 20 amp fuse under the cowling. I have checked the tilt trim relay and it is good, checked the tilt trim motor and it is fine. The starter motor works. But the problem I have found is when I disconnect the red lead that goes into the rectifier regulator everything seems to be fine but as soon as I reconnect the red lead the fuse blows. I am not sure where to go next, any suggestions?

thanks

Try leaving the R/R red output lead connected but disconnect the two green input leads and see what happens.

The fuse blows when the red lead is reconnected to the RR. If I leave the red lead disconnected and replace the fuse the tilt trim works and the engine turns over with the key.

Two bad regulators in a row seems improbable. But if every time the R/R is connected to the red lead the fuse blows, I can't see what else it could be.

Have you tried disconnecting the input wires to the regulator?

Don't know if a fault in the input wires to the R/R can cause the problem but it is worth giving it a try.
