I am ready to install a new 90hp Yamaha on my 16'6" Mckee craft. I have purchased new 703 throttle controls, new gauges, etc. The 10 pin harness connection will connect right up to my motor, but I have several questions I need help with. 1. I need a diagram for the additional wires coming out of the throttle cable assy ( one plug has a red, a yellow, a black, and a green wire; The other plug has 2 red, 2 purple and 2 light green wires tied together) Is there a diagram indicating what these are? Can anyone help me?

2. I have a set of gauges off of a boston whaler and I need to know where to hook these up/how to hook these up, (Tach, Speedometer, Trim, water temp, battery voltage, oil pressure.

3. I need a prop for this application and was thinking about a 19 pitch or a 21 pitch, sound applicable?

4. I am removing a 100 hp evinrude from the mckee craft to install the new 90hp yamaha, any suggestions on mounting (I have never done this before).
5. Any other advice info, websites you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!!!!

hello
how did ya buy a yam in the box? aint suposed to be able to and this is why. are the old gauges yamaha? if they are pre-95 gauges you will have to buy adaptors. the red wire from the box is 12v anytime the battery switch is on, you do have a battery switch?, the yellow is key on 12 the black is ground and the green is tach send, the other cable colors are red, green and blue not purple. they are for second station power trim. who is going to do the PDI sheet? yamaha is getting sticky if its not done and it pops a power head or gearcase.
prop selection is going to be similar to what the 100 had assuming it was propped correctly. the tach setting is 12 pole or 6 pulse. I use 5200 as a sealent as silicone in the salt area does not work long.
I dont think any trim gauge other than a yamaha one will work. and the older 3 wire sender gauges wont work with you 2 wire sender motor.
if this is an F90 you will have to use the tach that is selectable for two or 4 stroke operation. its not reccomended to install an oil pressure gauge on the F motors.the water temp you will have tolook in the 05 rigging guide. I cant remember off hand which plug it is. my opinion is a water temp and oil pressure are teats on a boar hog in an outboard application but some like them.
any other questions fire a post back

I purchased the outbaord from someone who had their boat catch on fire and insurance paid it off. He sold me his older motor(still new). I made him sign a statement saying He was sole owner. The gauges are NOT Yamaha, but Faria gauges off of a Boston Whaler boat. I bought the entire panel with six gauges, six switches and an ignition for 100.00 on Ebay. What is the PDI sheet? The warranty? Hey Rodbolt, do you have an E-mail address so I could write you? Thanks, Ray

PDI=Pre Delivery Inspection.

The guage set you bought is from an I/O (inboard/outboard).

Forget the oil pressure. Replace the water temp guage with a water pressure guage.

rayray
rodbolt40@yahoo.com
I will warn ya that sometimes I dont check it often :) :) .
the warrenty may be transferable.
my opinion of faria gauges is poor. go buy the yamaha mulifunction tach. is this a four stroke 90 or a two stroke ninty? the yamaha mulitfunction also incorperates the trim gauge, hour meter and visuals for the alarm system.

The motor is a 2 stroke. I do not plan on using the oil or water gauges. I like the multi-function yammy gauge, but it seems pricy!! Any other tips on installing the controls/gauges? Thanks Guys, You've been a real blessing!!!!!!

most is fairly straight forward. dont screw the cable ends in the c'box to far on, just until the threads show thru the other side.
pull on the throttle cable slightly at the motor end to adjust its length to be snug over the pin.
make sure the shift cable anchor is centered over the mark when the boat is in neutral.
if the prop is a standard white yam prop setup the vent plate height slightly lower then keel depth. use a good grease on your steering cable( i prefer fitting a zerc and using oil regularly)and not too much of it. be sure to use dielectric grease on your main harness and engine harnesses.
most importantly fit a good fuel filter.
the multi function yamaha tach is worth the money.
