Okay, first I'd like to say thanks, there truly is a wealth of information here.
My problem is this. I recently found out I'd be getting the boat out of the divorce.. YEA ME.. think i"ll re-name the boat Karma or the EX-Boat...
anyway. Last summer I hit a tree or something.. was running along fine and bam bam bam then the engine just revved out like someone put it in neutral. Upon inspection I found that two and a half of the three prop blades were gone, tore right off. Engine starts and runs fine, but will not shift into forward or reverse, I ran it at home on muffs and nothing leaks or binds or grinds.
I got it home and checked first for a blown prop hub, I do not think that this is the problem. When I turn the shaft I can hear nothing rattling/grinding/slipping, nor can I feel any sort of twist or warp in the lower prop shaft, I measured this by rigging up some calipers not to move and turning the shaft, it seems to be straight and true.
Now I am no expert, you guys are. I have a sealoc manual for it but it only goes up to 2003, this model is a 2005 and I can't find any manuals for the 05 volvo penta sx outdrive (NOT duo-prop).
The boat is a 05 Caravelle 197 with very low hours on it, like maybe 20, it hsa the 4.3gl in it.
So, let the diagnosing begin. Now that I have a place to work on it, and my dad, I think we can at the very least take the drive off or possibly just start by removing the bottom half. Could this be something as simple as the shift linkage being knocked out of wack? If I had torn up some gears or blown a u-joint it would seem to me that I'd hear it when I turned the shaft. There is no fluid leakage, and no external case damage whatsoever.
Anyway, any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Casey
