Motor doesn't seem to be getting fuel, checked line from tank to fuel pump gas flows in fine, I siphoned out of tank through pickup. New fuel filter not getting any gas to it. Going to put some fuel in filter in attempt to prime. Getting 12v when cranking to the fuel pump. Fuel line to carb is clear as well. Don't want to buy a $200 fuel pump if it's not broke.

Any more suggestions?

You can hear/feel the pump run when it is running. If you are getting 12V to it when cranking the relay and the rest is A-OK, if the pump still does not run you need a new one. Not that uncommon for them to fail.

Thanks for the reply...took fuel pump to the bench and it works fine. I'm only getting 10.4 volts to the pump though not sure if that's normal but it is not pumping any fuel. Checked all hoses put fuel system back together put some fuel in carb and ran the motor a couple of times and it finally kept running. Started the motor on the garden hose twice, once that day and then a week later before I went to the lake and started and ran fine. Ran fine for 1 hour on lake then on accelleration it just quit and would not re-start. Relay perhaps?

Remove the relay, check that you have battery voltage at terminal 30. If not, check the fuse. If you do have battery voltage, make a jumper wire and put between terminals 30 and 87. The pump should run.

Re: 2005 Volvo Penta 5.0-GL Fuel Issues

Much appreciated info. I'll try that as soon as the temp outside drops 10 degrees, it's 100 now. However I'm thinking I have an electronics issue somewhere because while trying to start it the tach would jump up, the radio would come on...wierd stuff. I found one loose ground but don't think that was it. Any ideas on where to start? The 10.4 volts measured at the fuel pump lead seemed odd should it not be 12V?

Get your meter and start at the starter terminal, verify you have battery voltage (Measure the battery so you know what it is) and start following the wiring diagram.
What is your full engine model number. Volvo nor Merc go by year on anything.

Re: 2005 Volvo Penta 5.0-GL Fuel Issues

I went off the fact that I was only getting 10.4 volts to the fuel pump when cranking and had 12v at the fuel pump relay post. Replaced the fuel pump relay and now getting 12v to the pump and boat is operable once again.

Hearing a lot of issues w/chaparral gauges, my tach will jump now and then which leads me to believe deeper issues lie. I put 8 hours total over a weekend on it and all is good for now (knock on wood)
