2005 Stingray 230sx top speed question

Hello!

Friday I'm purchasing an 05 SX230. It has the merc 8.1 496 Motor, 23p 3 blade prop, and a wake board tower which I understand will effect top end speed. I was under the impression this was a 70 moh boat. The current owner stated he has only got it up to roughly 58mph however he never touched trim etc.

Does this sound right or should it be closer to 70mph?

Usually the manufacturer states top speed at the most ideal conditions. Stingray does state the top speed in the 70 mph range with a 25p prop.

However, real-world never seems to meet the ideal numbers, and often come in low. Not sure you want to go 70 mph in that boat. If it did not go beyond 60 mph, would that change your buying decision?
