My son in law bought a 2005 gti from a dealer. Ran good for about 8 hours when it started missing/running rough at top speed. Went down hill from there. Finally with full throttle, would not rev above about 2500 RPM. This happened over about a 15 minute period. Checked plugs and they were not fouled, but were very black in color. Additional, where exhaust exited, was very black.
Took back to dealer for check out. He worked on Carb and of all things the "wear ring". Could not get it running right. Finally said problem was a bent crank shaft. Used a microcromiter (SP). Don't believe that is problem because there was no reason for it to get bent by us. Anyway got full value on a trade in. No money lost, just obtained a new ski. Curious at what might really be problem.
