Does anyone own [or know someone who owns] a 2005 or later Toyota Tacoma King cab (4 regular-opening doors) - See Picture Below.

Have you ever seen the rear seats folded down? What kind of space is there back there? How high would you estimate the top of the folded seats are from the ground? Is it a height that a large dog could jump up to?

Thanks for your input.

Sean

Hi there ee. I don't own one :( , but I have looked closely at them. The rear seats have a hard plastic back on them and they fold down completely flat. They aren't very thick, so there is plenty of room in the back for a dog(s) or quite a bit of cargo. One thing I didn't like is the head rest/support, whatever you call it, have to come off first so now what do you do with it. The newer body style is a little bigger than the old Tacoma. It's more along the size of those midsize Dodge's (can't remember their name) Nice truck, but I still like the old compact Toyotas. I can't beleive they don't make them anymore. They sold out!

Ahh, thanks for the info DR... I have a 120 LB St. Bernard and he needs to be able to jump up in there when we travel places - - I don't want to force him to ride in the bed. If you could guestimate it, how high from the ground to the top of the folded down seat is it? 24"... 36"?

The newer Dodge's are Dakotas...

And QC I like your thinking :D .. I'm just doing a lil planning ahead. I don't think the SUV's would be able to properly handle a trailered boat the way I like. So, I'm thinking pickup.

Sean

ee, it's at least 36" on the 4X4 or Pre Runner versions. But, it's sort of a step onto the door jamb first (right around 24") and then onto the seat. Shouldn't be a problem. I have the older Tacoma X-tra cab, not the 4 door version, and my dogs jump into the back easily. Should be even easier with that truck though because of the extra door.

The Dakota, that's it. Thanks.

I'm partial to the DAK...... :D :D

My neighbor had a Tacoma until last year.....he liked it, but to me it just didnt look right. The pic you showed looks nice. Body is almost identical to the new DAK style.

EE I have a 2005 Tacoma. It is the access cab. My Lab has no problems jumping in and out. My truck is about 29 inches from the ground to the top of the folded down seat. Mind you the access cab has a bit smaller back seat than the four door model. Even with the smaller back compartment my full grown lab and my four month old lab have plenty of room, I think your Bernard would be more than comfy in the four door.

I really like the truck. I am averaging 20 MPG city. It rides nice and has plenty of guts. I did some serious comparison shopping and the Toyota was the best small truck by far. As far as trailering, It'll handle 6500 pounds. I pull my boat, or a heavy utility trailer loaded down with no problems.

Pony. Please dont even put the Tacoma in the same catagory as the dakota as far as looks!! The new Dakotas are about the worst looking truck out there.

Uhhhh, they look pretty similiar to me. :D I have seen the comparison of the bodies on TRUCKS! as well. Neither to me is a bad looking truck. But to me they are VERY similar. I don;t like the grill on the Dak though. I prefer the style before the gen 3 Daks (pre 1997) more than anthing else.

EE- maybe you could build the dog a little ramp, makes it easier on the paws.

I have to back Flathead up on this one. Those squared off Dakoda fenders that extend onto the door look terrible.

I agree with ya OMC, I'm just saying its hard to deny the similarities......no doubt there are some subtle differences that make the DAK far less appealing, but at the same time the similarities cannot be overlooked

Yeah,, they both have a cab and a bed. Maybe this is a more fair comparison.

I think what Pony is getting at (and I tend to agree with him) is that there are similarities in the lines of the two trucks. The differences is the Dodge has more exaggerated lines. The hood comes down a bit farther than the dakota. There is a separate flattened space trailing off behind the headlight above the fender. I'm thinking the headlights are tricking the eyes as well... on both trucks they are very large and exaggerated.

I like the Tacoma better tho. I'm not a big fan of the large angular fenders on the New Dakota. I was more of a fan of this style:
