2005 mercury,4stroke,fuel injected performance problem

I have a 2005 Mercury outboard,60hp,4stroke,fuel injected.It is mounted on a Bentley 20 ft. pontoon boat.Engine runs perfect until it reaches about 2500 rpm and then a steady alarm come on and the engine starts running rough and will not accelerate any further.It acts like the engine starts derating itself for protection.Bring engine back to idle and all is well again. Ant ideas ? THANKS
