Hello,
I have a 2005 Mercury 4 Stroke 60 HP engine and it's not "peeing" water. The boat has not been used for the past 4 weeks. I tried to use it on August 23rd. The engine started up on the first try and it sounded great. I didn't see any issues. I decided to let it run for a few minutes and I noticed it was not peeing water out of the back. I then turned off the engine, tried to see if there was any blockage and I didn?t find any. I stuck some wires in the hole and I didn?t feel anything.

I then hooked up the hose to the back of the engine. I tried to ?flush? out the engine like I usually do after every trip. Nothing? There are only a few tiny drips which come out of the propeller but nothing like it usually does. I don?t even think water flows into the engine.

Any idea what this can be? I only have two more weeks of boating. I don?t want to take it to a marina because I know it will take too long.

Some motors have a thermostat, does yours? Also, possibly broken impeller or blocked water passage.

I'm not an expert. However the thermostat even if jammed closed will not be the problem, although changing it would be a generally good idea.

I have just bought a 2004 60 efi, my fourth Mercury in 10 years. It was in a sorry state. The impellor and the plate were in a bad shape, we replaced the impellor, cleaned up the corrosion, fitted two new gaskets and it was fine. Except no pee........

Follow the pee pie a few inches back and it goes into the fuel pump (to cool it) Unplug the other end of the pipe going into the fuel pump, pee water will probably come gushing out, if so get some wire and poke it through the fuel pump, a load of crud came out of mine and that fixed it.

Exactly the same fuel pump cooler issue happened on my 30 efi the year before.

Regards

I have the same 2005 motor and my t-stat just went bad, still had a good strong pee flow but would overheat at higher RPM. I would have to say what "Jeep Man" said.

I just completed the process with my mercury 60 efi, 4 stroke. Tried everything everyone is telling you. Found that the grommet on the water tube from the pump to the adptorplate was swollen up and not allowing water in the engine. To test hook up the garden hose at the pee hole and open your hoses up one at a time until you find where you are not getting water. If it is not the water tube grommet it could be a plugged hose at the fuel cooler or the water jacket. Willing to bet its' the grommet not letting water get into the engine.

Agree 100%
Just replaced said grommett on 2 60's and a 90hp.
Plus the Dealer I sourced the parts from said they have done loads of Mariner/Mercs with the same problem

But if you have the problem I described above, that won't fix it!!
