My 2005 Mercury 50hp's oil injection tank is leaking thru the switch assy on the bottom of the tank. I removed the switch assy and found nothing to seal the switch (probe) to the tank. Tried adding an O-ring to the switch with no success. Looked up the parts diagram and didn't see any type of seal for the switch.
I noticed oil dripping from the lower unit when I had the boat in the garage and traced it to the oil tank. This just started leaking on its own as no work has been done to the motor recently.
Thinking of buying a new tank as one of the top mounting tabs on the tank are broken and the other is cracked. Don't want to shell out $120 for a new tank and have the same problem.
Any ideas?

bobmk, That was a perfectly writen post, very clear, any way its time to ges creative to try and save some money.
First thought can you hose clamp the tank to anything theirs huge hose clamps at Home depot?
This is not a o-ring fix, you need a flat rubber washer like on your garden hose, just the right size also at home depot in the fastener section. In the drawers below the screws that are above in bags.
The huge hose clamps are in the dryer vent section, and the plumbing section below the rubber hose.

Tommarvin, thanks for the reply. I subscribed to the post but never got a notification?? Anyway, I decided to get a new tank to eliminate the possibility of a hairline crack in the tank and be able to secure it with the mounts.
The previous owner had the broken mount fastened with zip ties already.
Tank should be here tomorrow and I'll update the status.

I went to replace the tank and heard something rattling inside while removing it. Turns out the float mechanism broke off and was the cause of the leak. It wasn't originally broke off but it must've been cracked and my repeated attempts at sealing the sensor finally broke it the rest of the way.
The new tank is installed and the leak is fixed. I left the O-ring on the sensor and it worked fine.

Having had a very expensive lesson in oil injection failure on a big v6 200 merc...can I recommend blocking it off and pre mix ? Can be a pain but it’s piece of mind.
