2005 mercury 115 accelerator pump problem

i have a pontoon with a 05 mercury 115 4cyl. the first time i took it out i noticed a lot of fuel in the water, i took the top off of motor and pumped the bubble and found the accelerator pump was leaking. i got a new one and and installed it and the motor started and ran fine on the ear muffs with no leak. when i took it to the water i idled out and when i hit the gas it bogged down and died. i have to gently bump the throttle up to about 2000 rmp before i can hammer down on it and it not sputter. is there anything that i coule have done wrong installing it? it was very simple, two 5/16 bolts and two hoses.
