A friend of mine bought this motor last Mar and says he can turn the trim tab straight back and to the left. Of course the boats pulling to the right. Is there some sort of stop on them?
The bolt is loose/broken/missing. A bolt hold the trim tab in place, loosen the bolt to turn the tab, tighten the bolt to lock it in place.

There are incremental locking ridges in the lower gearhousing that marry up to ridges in the tab.

Aldo
It sounds like what you are saying is he needs to loosen the bolt enough to get pass that locking ridge so he can turn it to the right. Is that correct?
That's what it sounds like, it could be sitting ontop of the ridges rather than locking into them.

Standing at the back of the boat, the trailing edge of the tab needs to turn right to compensate for a starboard pull.
