2005 Malibu remote start stopped working

This feature worked last year, but now it isn't & with winter coming, I'd like to have that option!

The procedure, according to the manual is this:

"Press & release the transmitter's lock button, then immediately press & hold the start button until the vehicle's turn signals flash.....or if the lights are not visible, press & hold the remote start button for 4 seconds".

What happens is, while holding the start button as instructed, the turn signals flash once, and then instead of starting, nothing happens. All the other functions (lock, unlock, alarm, trunk) work fine.

Any ideas? Would a weak fob battery cause that? I'd think that if it was the battery, everything would quit working at the same time?

I founf this on the net https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in9l0p3-0z0 and unfortunately there is no user programming for the fob without being hooked up electronically (maybe autozone/)

Thanks, Bob, I came across that too. I just finished trying it and it made no difference.

I also checked the fob battery (OK); while I was doing that I found that 2 of the 3 solder connections of the battery holder were broken, so I resoldered them. Re-inserted the battery and it still works as it did before.

Also should note that the remote start syseem is enabled through the DIC (Drive Information Center, I thought I better explain that!). :)

Sounds like a safety switch is catching it. Two things to check right of the bat.

Is your check engine light on? Most systems won't start if the ECM detects a fault. Maybe run to Autozone and have them clear the codes.

The more likely culprit is the hood pin. Under your hood should be a pin/plunger switch that disables the remote start if the hood is open. You can try opening the hood locating the switch and pushing it a few times incase there's some crud in it. You could also unplug it and run a jumper across the wires and try the remote starter.

No check engine lights on. I had tried bypassing the hood latch switch, but that wasn't the problem.

I decided I'd have my garage check it out next time the car is in for work.
