I have a 2005 Johnson 115 PXSOR That is smoking real bad and has alot of sluge from the exhaust. All four spark plugs are soaked. The carbs were rebuilt last year year. Didn't find any obvious air leak. Anyone have the same issue? Would the float in the vapor seporator be a good place to start looking?

Did it run fine after the carbs were rebuilt?

What position is the red lever on the primer solenoid in?

Is the gasket for the lid of the VST leaking when you squeeze the fuel bulb gently?

WHen you say air leak do you mean that you checked the fuel and oil system for air leaks?

I would compression and spark check because that is what you do. Fuel sample. Then plumb a clear vinyl hose into the fuel line before the oms pump and tee off to a vacuum gauge. See how much in/Hg you are pulling. Look for air bubbles in the vinyl hose.

You can also do an oil consumption test by putting a graduated line onto the oil in of the pump. Hold it vertical and count the clicks on the pump and see how much oil is used. The manual explains in detail.

Run good after carbs were rebuilt
primer soleniod in correct position

I will have to recheck the lid while squeezing bulb

I used a vaccum guage on the lines to check for air leakage

I will check compression and spark and do the consumption test .
One other thing is the tach jumps around alot. looks like the voltage to the pump comes from the rectifier.

I say do the cylinder drop test and spark check because the jumpy tach could point to an ignition issue. Just because its smoky isn't always an over oiling situation, poor ignition components can lead to unburned fuel and create smokiness. Have the open air gap spark checker set to 7/16". Its really nice if you have a tester that can check all four at once so that you can see not only the spark but the order of firing evenly with no skips or double sparks.

When you had the vacuum guage in how many in/Hg were you pulling? I believe you are hoping for less than 4 if taken at the oms pump.

compression test on all 4 cylinders are 130 plus. Spark was all good. Failed the oil volume test bad. It was sucking oil out of the tube as fast as it could. I believe it's time to disconnect the oil pump and run it on a premixed external tank ..

Check the gasoline supply lines for air leaks. Air leaks on the gas side will cause the OMS pump to add extra oil. Check the main strainer for proper gasket and orings.

yep, you need to plumb in the clear vinyl hose right before the "fuel in" on the OMS pump. Look for air bubbles with some throttle applied. Air will make that pump pump oil excessively.

There were no air bubbles in the clear line. I Disconnect the the oil side of pump and the on board tank. Ran it with a premix external premix tank. A lot less smoke.
Can the oil side of the pump be replaced with out replacing the whole pump. It appears the oil side is not rebuild able.
