I'm asking this for a friend.
As the title states, he's got 2005 Johnson/Suzuki 4 stroke on the back of a 1850 Lund Fisherman. Early last year the engine was running very poorly, lacking power, sputtering, that sort of thing. I suggested getting rid of all the old fuel and replacing with fresh fuel as the boat sits more than it gets used.
He replaced fuel with fresh. That kind of made a difference. What happened next was if he's up on plane, or WOT, he gets a few seconds of WOT, then the engine just cuts out and kills. He could restart the engine and repeat until now the engine does not start at all.
He's got a 4 stroke kicker motor that runs off the same tank and purs like a kitten. In fact that's what got him back to the dock when the 140 h.p would no longer start.
I suggested that he check the fuel line and primer ball going to the main motor for any blockage. He said he did that.
Does this motor have a fuel/water separating filter hiding some place?
Could this be a result of an electrical/ground problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
