Just leased this 2005 dodge Dakota V6. Salesman told me it can tow 4700lbs. I have a 24 ft Searay at about 4500lbs plus trailer. I looked in the truck manuel and it says 2000lbs capacity. Big question is??? Lake is only 4 miles, straight down my road. Put the boat in in the spring and take it out in the fall. Do I chance this or not???

Re: 2005 dodge dakota

tommays has a good idea.

Think of your true weight. If boat is rated at 4500 lbs, add the weight of fuel, anchor, etc. Make it 5000 lbs. for true weight. What does the trailer weight? Just a guess, but 1200 lbs would not be out of line.

Now we are at 6200 lbs with a vehicle rated at 4700 lbs. More than I would want to do.
