2005 90hp 3 cylinder lower unit questions

Late this fall someone tried to steal my lower unit must of got spooked and dropped it in the storage yard.....long story short, I took the opportunity to replace impeller and gaskets etc. Looks to me like there should be something to seal the water pipe on the pump to the one in the motor. Is there? Also it looks like there should be something connecting the short shifter shaft which is splined to the splined shaft coming from the motor, is there? Any help greatly appreciated!

There is usually a rubber sealing gasket that the top of the water tube fits into on the exhaust plate. The shifting rod connector might have fallen off the upper shift rod and is lost.
