About the same time we went thru some garbage on the lake, (coincidence? i don't know) our motor wound up for a short time (as though you pushed in the clutch on a car or truck) but then normalized, however, since then it sure seems low on power, the speedo seems off (reads low)

I dont think its a motor issue , but for lack of true knowledge, what little I have diagnosed is: when shifted to forward, i can rotate the prop by hand one way fairly freely with some light clicking, the other way, it turns the motor, When in reverse , you turn the motor both directions with the prop.

Is there some kind of shear pin that might cause the prop to slip? or is that normal for this combo? tested on a 150hp at the lake and it turned the motor in forward and reverse, both ways on the prop.

I did try flushing the motor, hoping is was just something plugged up, but saw nothing obvious come out.

Just looking for a little guidance, as my fear is taking it to a shop and being told I need a new lower unit or some such, which may be.. but I'd like an educated guess before going in.
