My 2005 50 hp 4S EFI Mercury outboard will start and run. Motor dies when put in gear and the throttle kicks in. It appears to be starving for fuel. I have replaced the gas hose assembly from the fuel tank to the motor. Also installed a new low pressure and high pressure fuel filter. New low pressure fuel pressure pump also installed. Cleaned the Vapor Separator Tank and the filters inside. Applied 12 volts to the high pressure fuel pump and it ran (but I don't know how powerful it should sound). Installed new spark plugs. Fuel tank pick up tube was also replaced. Did all this and nothing has changed. Still appears to be starving for fuel (and dies) upon accelerating. I am planning on obtained a gauge and testing the fuel pressure at the schrader valve. I have read that you can read the diagnostics codes with a ohm meter (with audio) or a light bulb circuit (counting flashes). I am not sure if this can be done, what connector and/or pins to use, and all details of the procedure. I am attaching a photo that shows the harness connection with the pins I think I need to use (has a "Smartcraft Label attached). Please verify if the connector is correct and if I can actually read the diagnostic code this way. I'm also open to other suggestion on how to fix my outboard. Thanks in advance!
