Hi...believe me, I've looked almost everywhere....even bought a Seloc Manual online today....no help! The only diagram I wanted was for a different motor......(although the caption said "similar")

This should be simple....I want to change my remote shift cable, but I can't see what the shift/fuel cable holder (retainer) looks like because it's under the oil tank.....I think it's just a clip that is pryed open with a screwdriver and the barrel on the cable slides out..... but I can't tell for sure.

Is it as drastic as removing the oil tank ????......I'm quite sure it's not, but I really don't want to break that clip. I can't even find a picture of the part in question. Thanks for any assistance......dennismurphy1@hotmail.com, or here on the forum.

That s/n comes up as a model:

1090D83DY MERCURY 2005 90DFI

Parts Listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/10131.cfm

If you look in the parts listing under Exhaust Plate,, you will see item 22 which is the upper shift rod and item 23 which is part of the link kit. This is where the shift cable will hook up.

Mercury Service Manual P/N: 90-8M0047659

Couldn't find a good picture for you anywhere, so here is a link to the Outboard installation for the 135 engine. If you look at Page 1D-11, you will see the retainer setup which is just lifted up and rotated away from the pin on the cable end.

Gerry.....I really want to thank you for all the time and effort you put into helping me with this. This is a project boat (27' Glen-L design that I bought last fall) that still required a lot of work to become the boat that I wanted. The previous owner just launched her on July 1st of last year, but the boat was pretty basic at that point. FYI, it is the "True Grit" design

We had a 35" Trawler (1959 Diesel) for the last 15 years, but she burnt and sank last August...actually, we only had about 2 minutes to get off before she was completely engulfed............anyway, thanks again for your help. I'll check out those sites this evening.....this afternoon, I've got my hands full installing a second bank of batteries and an inverter.!!
