I cannot start my 90 2 stroke outboard without starting fluid after sitting a day. When warm she starts right up all the time and runs great under throttle. Fuel is good, filter is clean and plugs are brand new. There is a little red lever near carbs, not sure where that should be set. This boat does not have a choke by key switch. If there is a cold start swith does anyone know where that would be located and how to check to see if it working. Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Is the red lever in the auto position so that it will provide extra fuel to motor while it is cold?

I will check in a day or so when I get back to the lake, I did switch it to all postions but it did not affect starting at all.

sounds like you need to take the enrichment system apart and see what is wrong with it

The red lever usually has 3 positions, one is on, one is off and the other is normal....or fully automatic enrichening device....operates on an expanding wax pellet, sorta like the thermostat in a car, except the Yamaha outboard unit is heated by electricity while the automotive thermostat is just temperature activated...

Got it, I switched it to on and she started right up. I'll try it tonight with the fully automatic setting..
Thanks so much.

It really needs to operate in normal/automatic position........in the on position your enrichening device will remain on long after your motor has started and warmed up/running correctly....leaving you with a rich condition...fouling plugs, smoking, etc.....

I thought you said you had tried all positions, but now you say the on position makes it start. that does not make any since
