I have a 2004 Volvo that will spin, but has no spark and i am looking for some help with it. Here are the specifics.
Motor Model- 5.7 GI-E
Motor Serial Number -3869258
My mechanic is a friend of mine. He is a certified outboard Tech and a Mercruiser Tech, but Mostly deals with drives and such. He told me to look at the internet for info, because he is doing it for free and doesn't want to spend days searching for the problem, if someone is familar and can help us pinpoint it that would be great.
Yesterday we checked the fuel pressure, all checked good, checked all the relays, all checked good, checked all the fuses, all checked good. We seem to have 12 volts going to the coil. We have voltage going to the crank and cam sensor and coming out when you aren't spinning the motor, but when you spin the motor the gray/black(i think) and the black wire go to zero. I replaced the crank sensor with a new one he had lying around and it made no change. All of the wiring looks fine. We are checking voltage at the ecu and at the sensors, so i don't think it is a broken wire. I really don't know how the voltage should read, so i don't know if is an ECU issue. We were able to borrow a Volvo Scan tool and it communicated with the ECU fine. I believe the stored codes were a 44, which is a knock sensor, and i think a 81 which could be various things. I could only use the tool for a few minutes and these were the codes. I haven't been able to get the computer back to check it again. I am not 100% sure i am checking it right, but with no spark my mechanic seems to think this is where we need to be looking.
Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated, like i said we aren't idiots, but we are not at all familar with Volvo's and the newer MPI stuff.
