2004 Volvo 5.7 GI-E with no spark

It will spin, but no spark, checked the fuses, have 12 volts coming into the coil, put a diagnostic computer on it, no codes, crank sensor is good...I am sure i am missing something stupid and simple, so hopefully someone can make some good suggestions to check out.

Do you have a kill switch lanyard?

kill circuit seems to be fine. I check it and it also showed closed when we checked it with the computer...I could only use the computer for a few minutes to check for codes and there was nothing that would keep it from cranking. Then the starter died. We put a new starter on it, but i have not been able to get the computer again to keep looking for the problem. I threw a crank sensor on it that i had lying around in the box hoping it was something that simple...i have a manual and have been through it trying to find something, but so far i haven't spotted it.

Got the full model number or SN of your engine handy. Volvo (nor Mercruiser) does anything by year.
Did you check the ignition relay to see if it was working?

i will get the model and serial number tomorrow morning when i go to work and post it...I will also ask my mechanic if he checked the ignition relay, he has been messing with this thing, i am just trying to help him out by getting a different perspective than his and mine. I appreciate the help!

If your mechanic doesn't have the manuals or tools to fix your engine without you posting on a forum for help. Then you need a new mechanic, or take your boat home and fix it youself.
But it's not nice to pit your mechanic agiant what you find on the internet.

Personally if you brought your boat to me for repairs, then later came in and said "Check the relays, I heard this on the internet" I would close your engine hatch and tell you to take your boat to the "Internet" and get it fixed.

Here is the information, i hope someone can help.

Motor Model- 5.7 GI-E

Motor Serial Number -3869258

My mechanic is a friend of mine. He is a certified outboard Tech and a Mercruiser Tech, but Mostly deals with drives and such. He told me to look at the internet for info, because he is doing it for free and doesn't want to spend days searching for the problem, if someone is familar and can help us pinpoint it that would be great.


Yesterday we checked the fuel pressure, all checked good, checked all the relays, all checked good, checked all the fuses, all checked good. We have voltage going to the crank and cam sensor and coming out when you aren't spinning the motor, but when you spin the motor the gray/black(i think) and the black wire go to zero. I am not 100% sure i am checking it right, but with no spark my mechanic seems to think this is where we need to be looking.

Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated, like i said we aren't idiots, but are not at all familar with Volvo's and the newer MPI stuff.
