I have a 2004 Tahatsu MD50 TLDI which has served me well. I have take really good care of it, servicing it regularly as scheduled. The last week I have developed a major problem. The motor will not run properly at all. I will not accelerate past 2000-3000 rpm. It will not idle at all. Once in gear, it lunges. I have gotten it up to speed several times only to have it immediately shut down to a low rpm and begin lunging again.

I have changed to plugs, using the required expensive platinmun plugs, I have changed the fuel, I have run a fuel injection cleaner through the engine, I have check every fuse I can find, I have cleaned the fuel filter. I am now at a loss of what to do next.

Do you have any suggestions for me or do I need to throw in the towel and take it in for someone else to work on?

Have you checked your fuel line and connections?? It can act this way if it is sucking air prior to the fuel pump..

That was the first thing we did. Changed the fuel line, bulb, and made sure the fittings were tight. The bulb stays tight when pumped up so I do not believe that it is an air leak.

Take it into a dealer. The engine requires a level of expertise to troubleshoot that the average tinkerer does not posess.
