Have a 2004 four stroke that runs great. Lately though I've noticed what sounds like a belt squealing at low speeds. Once you increase speed the sound goes away. Do these engines even have any kind of belt in them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

could be the cam drive belt, somewhat normal. could be the belt tensioner bearing. never seen one fail but its possible.
most likly the drive shaft bushing mounted in the mid section just above the water pump.
on the muffs spray fluid film or something like that on the shaft just above the steering tiller, wait five minutes and restart. if the noise is gone odds are the bushing needs attention/grease.

Thanks Rodbolt. I'll give that a try.

I?ve got a 2006 90hp 4stroke with the same issue. I spoke with my local dealer and they said something about greasing the bushing. Is this something that I can do? I?ve got plenty of experience on Honda 225's but not Yamaha?s. Were is the bushing, lower unit, mid-section or top end?

Thanks,
William
